Going in on the 13th for the talc procedure

Postby queenphoton » Thu Dec 31, 2009 1:36 pm

We met with the thoracic surgeon and he agreed to do the procedure on the 13th. He did explain that his lungs maybe damaged from the pressure that they have gone through. But this is something that his pulomonologist never explained to us which I feel slightly angered by! I hope that his lungs aren't too bad and will bounce back a bit. I will stay positive on that note, but the Dr did explain that he will probably feel just how he feels after a thorancentesis is done which isn't a whole lot of relief but it's some. I'll be happy for any breathing relief for my dad.

His breathing right now is great when sitting, but any form of movement it gets rough for him. We are also meeting with a hypertension pulmonologist this Wednesday to see if we can get any help in that area. This also cause extreme shortness of breath and very few Drs know how to handle it. I found a specialist in Detroit that will look him over and give him some more accurate testing which can't hurt. So I'm hoping the new year will help with his symptoms and help us manage them a bit. He is 85yrs old and I'm so blessed he has felt so good up until about 1yr ago and to have such odd things hit him.

Thank you all for the support that you have given and Pat I would love to extend a special hug your way,...Thanks

Happy New Year to all

Hi Mary Ann

A very special Happy new Years to both you and your dad. I'll be saying a prayer for the 13th that all will go smoothly and that it will help your dad.

Daughters are jusr really super special people too. I admire you and have great respect for you because of the help you are giving him. My daughter has done the same for me and I just don't know how I would have made it or continue to make it without her love and help.

Let me know how it goes on the 13th - and super hug back to you!!!!

Hi Pat,
Thanks for the kinds words, but as I look at it, myself and my brothers just do what we have to in order to make our dad feel better.

I do have a quick question for you, how is your breathing now? I am a bit concerned that we may have waited too long and that he may have too much scarring on his lungs. I hope not, but we have no choice now.

He actually had a pretty good day yesterday and I'm not sure if it's because the surgeon told him that he had to keep walking no matter how short of breath he was or what. But he was getting in and out of the chair several times and the breathing wasn't too bad.

I'm just hoping for some relief for him,
mary ann
